Combustion Optimisation support services

Uneek Energy Solutions personnel have experience in combustion of a wide range of fuels – gaseous, liquid and solid, with solid fuels ranging from biomass through low rank coal to hard coal.

Uneek has worked with clients to analyse combustion issues using recorded data to develop suggested changes to improve performance.  Key issues encountered include fuel quality, fuel/air distribution and even control loop issues. Generally, recorded data is well past the combustion zone (i.e. downstream temperatures and oxygen content, etc.).

Uneek’s local knowledge of combustion is augmented by our partners who have experience with an even wider range of installations and issues.  A more detailed view of combustion behavior can be achieved by the AGAM Acoustic Gas Temperature Measurement System developed by Uneek’s specialist technology partner Bonnenberg & Drescher.  The AGAM uses compressed air to measure the speed of sound within the combustion gases coupled with tomography to produce a 2-D map of gas temperature to show spatial variability.

The furnace can be divided into logical zones and adjustments made to fuel and air distribution to narrow the spread of gas temperatures (see two examples below).

Regular measurements at less than 1 minute frequency can also highlight variability with time.

Uneek’s partner, Steinmuller Engineering has advanced combustion modelling capabilities and has also designed and supplied advanced burner systems capable of handling a wide range of fuels whilst still achieving low NOX emissions.
